28 Day Masking Challenge: My Experience, Favorite Masks, and Results

As a continuation of the Korean beauty kick I’ve been on, I wanted to explore daily masking and when I conducted a poll on Instagram, you all agreed! So for the month of February, I experimented with a new mask each night and thus the #28daymaskingchallenge was born. Ultimately, the goal was to test out different masks, share my honest feedback, and understand the benefits or drawbacks at the end of the 4-week period. Now that I have tried 18 brands and a variety of face mask types, I’ve narrowed it down to my absolute favorites and can share the overall effects on my skin.

My Experience

Honestly, challenging myself to mask every day for 28 days was tough. I had to set a recurring reminder for myself so I wouldn’t forget or skip this step in my skincare regimen. Once it became part of my routine, it became much easier and almost second nature. While I had a positive experience with the majority of the masks, there were a couple that didn’t leave such a good impression. Among the sheet masks I tried, the Yes To sheet masks were the most unpleasant. They often had an overpowering scent and left my skin feeling uncomfortable (e.g. burning/itching or redness). I’ve also learned that my skin really does not agree with tea tree so I’ll be steering clear of that in all masks and skincare products moving forward. Through this process, I’ve learned to always check the ingredient list and directions to ensure the well-being of my skin. Overall, I prefer the Korean brands because they’re gentle yet effective with their ingredients but there are definitely some non-Korean ride or die products that I continue to come back to.

Results

Over the course of 28 days, the main improvements have been in the texture of my skin and the visibility of pores. To be honest, I didn’t see any major differences until I was about a week into masking so consistency is key if you want to see results. Slowly but surely my skin appeared brighter and has even improved the way makeup looks on. My skin feels so much smoother especially on my forehead and around my cheek area. I have definitely seen my pores reduce in size and appear much tighter which is most likely due to better sebum control. All in all, I had so much fun trying new products and brands that I hadn’t before and sharing the journey with you. I would definitely recommend regular masking but just make sure you do your research and understand what your skin is saying. Happy masking!
