I first came across magnetic eyelashes around six months ago when another blogger posted an ad on Instagram. When I saw it, I immediately clicked through and had to know all the details. After doing some digging online, I wasn’t convinced enough to purchase a set for myself. I assumed they were making it look much easier than they claimed and it wasn’t something I needed anyway. Fast forward to December when I was re-introduced to magnetic lashes through a friend who actually made it seem easy and effortless. Seeing them in real life and hearing about her experience, I thought I’d give them a shot. So, I reached out to Silly George and they were kind enough to send me each of their three styles to test out: The Dailies, The Originals, and The Drama.
Now, I don’t wear false lashes frequently and have stopped getting lash extensions to allow my natural lashes to grow out. Since receiving the magnetic lashes, I’ve been wearing them almost every day with little to no hassle added to my daily routine. Most importantly, I’ve had absolutely no fallout of my natural lashes! With magnetic lashes still being a fairly new trend, I wanted to share my tips and pros/cons so you can determine if they’re right for you.
First off, they are 100% safe to wear and do not hurt your eyes. While there are tiny magnets clinging to your eyelid, I have not found them to be painful. I will admit that it takes some finessing to find the right fit so it doesn’t rub against your lids and cause irritation but it’s all about practice.
Application
- Curl and apply some mascara to help secure the lashes. It almost acts like an extra bonding agent and prevents any slipping throughout the day.
- In the directions, they instruct you to actually cut the bottom strip of lashes into three pieces to help make application easier. Trust me and do it! I also use tweezers to help with placement and precision.
- Place the top strip of lashes above your lash line starting with the outer corner and hold. Pick up the outer corner section of the bottom strip and carefully approach the lash line from below. The magnets should cling to each other when they get close enough.
- Before proceeding with the rest of the sections and magnets, check that the strip is applied as close to your eyelid as possible. This will create that seamless look when viewing from above.
- Once you’re happy with the placement, repeat Step 3 for the rest of the sections. Continue to hold the top strip along your lash line to ensure it stays flush against your lid.
Removal
Do not pull them straight off. The best way for me has been to start by individually removing the bottom strip sections. Once those have all been removed, it should allow for the top strip of lashes to easily be lifted off.
Cleaning
I don’t find my lashes to get that dirty from eye shadow or mascara but regular cleaning should prolong the quality of the lashes. I suggest using an oil free makeup remover or micellar water with a cotton pad to gently rub off any residue and a quick rinse under water.
Silly George Style Comparison
I personally prefer “The Dailies” for everyday wear as they have the most cat-eye-like shape whereas “The Originals” give off a more doll-like appearance. “The Dramas” are definitely the longest and fullest of the bunch so I’d probably wear them if I wear going out or wearing a bolder eye look. In terms of the fit, I found the lashes to be a little longer than my natural lashline so I trimmed the ends of all of them slightly. Overall, I’ve had a really positive experience with these and would highly recommend to anyone who wants a little volume added to their natural lashes. I wouldn’t say they’re a substitute for lash extensions since they shouldn’t be worn overnight but they would be a great solution for those that may be transitioning on or off of them. I definitely plan to continue wearing these and checking in with how they wear over a longer period of time. If you’re
